Dear All
This week's bulletin contains information on the #RedForRuth 2021 Club Challenge, ECB Coach Development Scholarships, and The Club Cricket Charity Defibrillator Fund.
Ruth Strauss Foundation is delighted that cricket is turning red again, with LV= Insurance dedicating the second Test Match of the ENG-IND series to the Foundation. Day two of the Test, Friday 13 August, will be our annual #RedforRuth day.
We are calling all cricket clubs, communities and friends to go red in any way, shape or form in the lead up to, and on Friday 13 August.
This year’s #RedforRuth Club Challenge will see two clubs join Sir Andrew and a surprise bowler at Lord’s for a coaching session and more – so get involved!
How to enter? Simple! Register on www.ruthstraussfoundation.com/club-challenge, and post something very red on social media tagging @RuthStraussFdn + #RedforRuth.
The redder the better! Let’s help families facing grief by raising awareness and funds while having some fun along the way!
Here are some of the ways in which you can help:
Let your local radio, papers and community mags know about your event and ask them to support the cause.
We are delighted to announce that the ECB Coach Development Scholarship initiative launched on 29th July 2021.
If you can’t see it then you can’t be it!
Our new scholarships will seek to break down barriers to access and improve opportunities for coaches that are female, ethnically diverse or disabled. Over a four-year period, one hundred scholars will be selected on an annual basis.
What is the purpose of the scholarships?
The scholarships have been set up to improve diversity in the coaching family and create role models that others may aspire too, by providing designated mentoring and support.
What types of scholarship are available?
There are two types of scholarships available:
How are scholars supported?
Each scholar will design a personal development plan with the support of an ECB Coach Developer. The individualised plans will then determine the support offered, which may include:
Who is it for?

The need for this equipment has been repeatedly highlighted by the frequency of tragic deaths due to cardiac arrest on and off the cricket field. Cricket grounds are, by their nature, usually remote sites away from hospitals and not in easy reach of emergency services. There is only a vital FIVE MINUTE period before permanent or irreversible damage can occur. A portable defibrillator can be the saviour of an otherwise catastrophic situation.
In partnership with the ECB, we have supplied and distributed over 350 portable units to cricket teams and clubs across the UK. Through our supply partner The Community Heartbeat Trust, the units are available at a huge discount to real costs and include training, insurances, notification to local emergency services and post stress counselling.
