Richard Burling steps down as County Safeguarding Officer......
.
As the 2022 season draws to a close HCL would like to thank one of its longest servants for his contribution to not only HCL, but also the Saracens Herts Premier Cricket League and cricket in general in the county.
Since 2010 Richard Burling has been the County Safeguarding Officer and for 11 years, he was a Director of the Board. Richard has decided that now is the time to step back from his County Safeguarding duties (he is however continuing as the Safeguarding officer of the Saracens League). He had ceased being a Director of HCL last year.
Few in the history of Hertfordshire Cricket have volunteered so much over so long for the benefit of the county and he will be sorely missed by HCL, although not by the wider game as he will still work with the Saracens League, Village Trophy and be ever present at his second home, Stevenage Cricket Club.
So much of the improvements in safeguarding within cricket in the county are due to Richard’s commitment and passion to help all enjoy cricket safely. He truly has been a wonder for the game in Hertfordshire whether it be juniors, Village Trophy, main leagues or the county board and leaves this role in a good position and in good hands.
Richard is passing the role to his deputy of four years, Julie Page.
Julie has already started work with the ECB on the next developments in ensuring cricket provides safe and secure environments for all and is now the County Safeguarding Officer. Julie will continue to work closely with the Safeguarding Board Lead – Phil Knappett.
