Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year ...
Congratulations to Ben Waring, who made his debut for the Hertfordshire Minor County side in 2013 as a 15 year old, on becoming the Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year in the recently published 2016 Wisden Cricketers' Almanack. This award was first introduced in 2007 and the first three winners Jonathan Bairstow, James Taylor and Jos Buttler have all become international cricketers. Ben, who won a cricket scholarship to Felsted School, took the most wickets (68) in schoolboy cricket last year. Ben becomes the first bowler of this award.
One of the other strong contenders for the award was Reece Hussain who scored 1,147 runs, also for Felsted School, with an average of 95.58. Both Ben and Reece played in the Minor County side last year.
