changes to the update subscription process.........
.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ
We have been made aware of an important change to the DBS Update Service which will affect all volunteers within your club who have an ECB DBS.
The previous renewal process was that a volunteer would receive two renewal e-mails. One from the Government directly, which did not need to be actioned. The second from the ECB, which did need to be actioned. The new process change now means that both e-mails will need to be actioned for a DBS re-check to take place. If both e-mails are not actioned, the DBS renewal on the Update Service will be cancelled, and a new DBS will need to be initiated.
What has happened?
The Disclosure and Barring Service has initiated a change in the process for updating certification for volunteers.
The Disclosure and Barring Service has now modified its user agreement, mandating that all individuals log into their update service account to renew their subscription on an annual basis. Should this not be actioned, their account will lapse, resulting in a failed check for the ECB, and the individual will be required to apply for a new DBS certificate as the DBS does not permit the reinstatement of Update Service subscriptions after lapsing.
What is the ECB Doing to minimise the impact of the change?
We have implemented the following changes:
What does an individual need to do?
1. Action the communication from the ECB once received 30 days prior to renewal: (Give consent and confirm their Role/Club/Contact details)
Email from dbs@ecb.disclosures.co.uk
Titled: ECB DBS Expiry - Important Message - Action required
2. Action the communication from the DBS Update service received 30 days prior to renewal: (log in and renew subscription)
Email from donotreply@dbs.gov.uk
Titled: FYI: Action required to renew your Update Service subscription
This change in process happened at the beginning of January 2025 and a lot of volunteers who's DBS was due for renewal in January have been caught out and have had their certificate cancelled by the DBS. An email will have been sent out by dbs.gov.uk to inform the person of the cancellation. We advise that all Clubs communicate this message to all their volunteers who require an ECB DBS to fulfil their role at the Club.
