Lydia Greenaway visits schools in Hertfordshire...
England International Cricketer Lydia Greenway recently completed a tour of Hertfordshire visiting Oakmere Primary School (Potters Bar), Watford Grammer School for Girls (Watford), The John Warner School (Hoddesdon), Leventhorpe School (Sawbridgeworth), The Herts & Essex High School (Bishop's Stortford), Simon Balle School (Hertford), The Leys Primary School (Stevenage), Barclay School (Stevenage), Highfield School (Letchworth), Roundwood Park School (Harpenden), Colney Heath Primary School and Bowmansgreen Primary School (London Colney) inspiring the next generation of girls to play cricket. The visits were organised as part of Hertfordshire Cricket's Chance to Shine programme in partnership with The Cricket Foundation.
The international star, who combine’s her role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador with her international training and playing commitments, coached children from across Hertfordshire.
The Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine campaign, currently employs seven England players on coaching contracts. Combining their international training and playing commitments with high quality inspirational coaching, young girls in Hertfordshire had the unique opportunity to meet and be coached by the country’s top female cricketers.
Now well into its tenth year, the Chance to Shine campaign continues to motivate and educate youngsters through cricket, with more girls than ever playing last year. Of the 350,000 youngsters engaged in Chance to Shine in 2013, 46% were girls.
Eddie Ballard, Schools & Community Cricket Consultant for East Hertfordshire commented: “We are delighted that Lydia Greenway visited our county and schools. It was a great experience for the children and a real inspiration for our girls to continue to play cricket and enjoy the game. The schools themselves thoroughly enjoyed having Lydia in and took full advantage of the session”
Sam Mitchell, Head of PE at Watford Grammar School for Girls said: “Our girls have been inspired by Lydia Greenway attending the session and have gained great confidence as well as motivation to play the sport (with many looking to join local clubs!). They are keen to develop their cricketing skills further and are consistent to our Tuesday sessions and who knows, we may have a Lydia Greenway in the making!” We thank Hertfordshire Cricket, Chance to Shine and Lydia for making this happen.
