Nick Gandon ..........
.
It is with much sadness that we report that Nick Gandon died on 28th February after a year-long battle against pancreatic cancer. Whilst still at Haileybury and a Hertfordshire Young Cricketer he made his debut for the County in the 1975 championship winning season. He played his final County game 21 years later and during this period he played 30 matches scoring 1,010 runs including one century (104 against Northumberland in 1994) and four 50s. We probably missed his best years when, for five years 1989 – 1993, he was teaching at Uppingham School and played for Lincolnshire scoring 1,556 runs in 35 games.
He played 11 games for the Over 50s scoring 507 runs (ave 46.09) including a century against Middlesex in 2009.
Nick spent much of his life involved with cricket. He was a Director of the Cricket Foundation at Lord’s and was heavily involved in setting up “Chance to Shine”. The Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund was set up to raise money for four cricket related charities and one of the recent fund raising activities was a sleepout event at Lord’s which took place on the night before Nick died.
He was a stalwart of Hoddesdon Cricket Club being a former captain and chairman before being appointed their President last July.
A memorial Service will be held at Haileybury on 25th October 2025.
We send our condolences to Carole, Jo and Amy at this difficult time.
