Hertfordshire Cricket

The 2016 season is well-advanced now and whilst cricket is uppermost in our minds, the Hertfordshire Association of Cricket Officials (HACO) have announced the winter programme of Umpires and Scorers courses.

The Hertfordshire Cricket Network recognises that Officiating is such a fundamental & important part of our game at whatever version or level of the cricket is being participated in and prides itself in the support and opportunities, provided mainly through HACO, that are on offer for the current officials and also those who are looking to make the move into the field.

As well as supporting individuals with their own aspirations of progressing through to officiating, we recognise the requirements of our leagues regarding match officials.

At present in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League, the League Panel provides umpires for the Premier, Championship and Divisions 1, 2A and 2B. For Divisions 3A to 6B it is a League regulation that all umpires should have achieved an ECB ACO Level 1 qualification. As far as scorers are concerned, the Level 1 qualification is required from the Premier Division down to Division 2B. Although some dispensations for both umpires and scorers have been agreed, it should be understood that these will become less prevalent as time passes.

In Divisions 7 and below, clubs are often unable to supply qualified umpires and scorers and on many occasions there are no non-playing officials at all.

We are sure you will agree that the greater number of qualified and competent officials we have, the more enjoyable cricket will become.
