Shortlist for May’s Shandy Shack Player of the Month:
After a mixed (and wet) start to the season for our Men’s and Women’s First XI’s, 4 contenders have been shortlisted for May’s Player of the Month, supported by our Sponsors Shandy Shack. With no fixtures able to be completed for the Women’s First XI, the quartet of contenders come from the Men following a rain-induced T20 campaign which saw them reach the Super 12s before falling short vs. Norfolk & Staffs, as well as the beginning of the 50-Over NCCA Trophy against Wiltshire. They are as follows:
David Burnell – David has grown into his role within the top order of the side, continuing his form from the 2023 season. He has led the batting line up, scoring 167 runs in the month at an average of 42. His most notable performances include a calm. Composed 42* in a victorious run chase vs. Bedfordshire during the T20 competition. He then followed this up with 52 against Wiltshire at the beginning of the one-day trophy.
Andrew Neal – Andrew has become one of the counties hottest properties with bat and ball in short format cricket over the past 2 seasons, and he showed his value on the opening day vs. Bedfordshire. His brutal innings saw him reach 50* from just 16 balls, including 6 sixes. Overall, he amassed 137 runs with a strike rate of 185 in the month. This has been backed up with 8 wickets in the T20 matches, proving his importance to the side in all facets.
Callum Taylor – Having joined up with the side this year, the former Glamorgan CCC man has hit the ground running with both bat and ball, and impressed all with his quality. In just 3 matches, he has notched 137 including 2 half centuries. His 69 vs. Norfolk at Super 12s being especially impressive given the conditions. This has been backed up with 4 wickets with the ball, at an economy of 6 runs per over.
Ben Waring – The captain has enjoyed a fruitful month with the ball, with the highlight being a spell of 5/15 from his 4 overs to bundle Bedfordshire out for 89 in the 2nd T20 of the season. This saw him not only surpass 50 Wickets in Competitive T20s for the County, but also become the first Hertfordshire Cricketer to take a 5-Wicket Haul in T20, 50 Over and 3-Day Cricket. During the month, Ben has collected 13 Wickets at an average of 13, with an economy under 6.00 throughout both T20 and One Day cricket.
